Before we start: Our many thanks go out to the seven Minnesota State University College of Business professors choosing our 2010 Business Person of the Year, Pamela J. Year of MRCI WorkSource. In her email to us on October 7 declaring the final vote results, Dr. Ann Kuzma of the MSU College of Business said, “Several of the faculty expressed that this year’s nominees were very impressive and that it was quite difficult to make a final selection.”
How can the federal government possibly recoup the money it has tamped into the cracks of the economy and spread around like fertilizer to stimulate a reluctant recovery? Digging through a pocketful of change, I realized the answer was staring me right in the face: advertising.
The Editor enjoyed the afternoon of September 15 soaking in the scenery at the Riverfront Park grand opening gala in Mankato. The Key City has begun reclaiming its historic river roots and the reclaiming was long overdue.
It was one of the coolest summers on record. In one two-day stretch in mid-July, the Editor’s children had swimming lessons canceled in Winnebago because of the pool water being too cold. Let’s hope everything in business heats up for the Christmas retailing season. Buckle your seat belts and away we go….
“Lookin’ good.” “Only four more sides to go.” “Hey, isn’t it Miller time?” The surest way to initiate a conversation with a neighbor, or stranger for that matter, is to paint something – a house, garage, shed.
On July 4 or thereabouts, the Editor will be catching candy cast from noisy fire trucks at the Vernon Center parade shindig. The sparkling fireworks that night should brighten up the countryside and the eyes of deliriously happy children.
I don’t like to be pessimistic, especially when it comes to business, but what are companies to do when customers say, “We don’t need you anymore”?
Oh come on, give it a try.” The smiling young woman herded me over to the stainless steel machine and grabbed an item from my shopping cart. “Just pass it over the glass like this,” she said. “Or, if it doesn’t register on the display, turn it this way.”
